Position Summary(Basic Job Function)

This is a temporary or an on-call position. Provides professional support. Responsibilities may include general business, science, medical, agricultural or other professional support functions. Term: Temps can work two (2) nine (9) month terms with a week break in service in between and at the end of the second term terminate for three (3) months or switch to an on-call. On-Call allowed to work 1039 hours in any twelve (12) month period.

Unit Position Summary

Instructors support students' academic growth, college readiness, and personal development through interactive learning, project-based instruction, and culturally responsive teaching practices.

Summer Six-Week Academy (Mid-June to Early August)

  • Assist in the development and implementation of interdisciplinary curriculum aligned with student needs
  • Develop needs assessments, pre-tests, and post-tests to measure student learning and growth
  • Provide engaging classroom instruction in assigned academic subject areas
  • Incorporate project-based learning, teamwork, and hands-on educational activities
  • Integrate multicultural perspectives and culturally responsive teaching practices
  • Assess student academic needs and provide individualized support and tutoring
  • Participate in study tables and academic support sessions
  • Create a classroom environment that promotes collaboration and academic improvement
  • Monitor and track student progress and communicate with program staff
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance and student progress
  • Collaborate with Upward Bound staff to ensure program goals are achieved

Academic Year Monday Sessions (September – Late May)

  • Plan and implement engaging Monday session classes
  • Provide instruction focused on college readiness skills
  • Assist students with current high school coursework and assignments
  • Provide academic mentoring and support
  • Create student-centered learning experiences
  • Foster a supportive learning environment
  • Collaborate with program staff to support student success

  • Encourage reflection, revision, and academic improvement
  • Utilize project-based learning and interactive teaching methods
  • Promote student-centered learning and engagement
  • Incorporate teamwork and collaborative learning
  • Create inclusive and culturally responsive classroom environments

Work Schedule

  • Summer Academy: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM, can be extended on trip days
  • Courses scheduled in 60–90 minute blocks
  • Academic Year Monday Sessions: 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM
  • Hours vary based on assignments and program needs

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Experience working with high school students preferred
  • Teaching or tutoring experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to educational equity and student success
