Software Engineer
Position Summary
The ED&I team is responsible for the design, development and support of a broad range of University applications.
Reporting to the ED&I team manager, the Software Engineer II position will:
- Design and implement scalable software solutions for university offices, ensuring high performance and responsiveness
- Collaborate with teams to translate business requirements into features, continuously enhancing applications and integrations using modern technologies
- Follow enterprise best practices, including TDD, CI, and CD, primarily with Java and Microsoft stacks
- Adhere to MSU IT policies, respond to incidents, and maintain documentation, while staying current with evolving technologies.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science or a related field.
- Two years of software development experience
- Experience with Test Driven Development (TDD).
- Experience with JAVA
- Experience with Classic ASP.
- Experience with Relational Databases (i.e. MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, etc.).
- Experience with Web API technologies.
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery Solutions.
- Experience with Object Oriented Programming (OOP).
- Experience with Web technologies including HTML, CSS and JavaScript/Typescript.
- Experience with source code management software (i.e. GIT, SVN, etc.).
- Ability to maintain positive interpersonal relationships with stakeholders.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
