Position Summary

The Associate Dean for Diversity, Inclusion, and Community Partnerships provides leadership and oversight in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, policies, and practices that promote improvements in the matters of equity and inclusion in the College among students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, the Associate Dean coordinates College initiatives aimed at creating and sustaining equitable relationships with and within PreK-12 schools, community organizations, and corporations.

As a member of the Dean’s leadership team, this position will:

 

        • Work with students, faculty, staff, and college administrators to foster a culture that is equitable, inclusive, caring, open, and safe for all.
        • Collaborate with departments and committees across the college and with the College’s Faculty Equity and Inclusion Committee (FEIC) to develop and include diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives in the college’s strategic plan.
        • Work in concert with college offices engaged in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives specifically, in support of our undergraduate and graduate student populations.
        • Engage in coordinated leadership to develop and implement activities, initiatives and programs that bring cultural awareness and educate on diversity that strengthens the inclusion of faculty, staff, and students and creates a sense of belonging.
        • Conduct periodic systematic assessment of climate in the college.
        • Collaborate with the college’s Support Staff Advisory Group, and any future staff working group or committee tasked with equity and inclusion issues.
        • Oversee efforts to achieve Web Accessibility.
        • Work with the Office for Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives and other relevant university entities to advance equity, inclusion, and justice across the entire college mission.
        • Facilitate recruitment initiatives activities/events aimed at increasing diversity in the College (i.e., College Tours, Advance-to-Adventure, and Precollege Summer Programs).
        • Coordinate professional education on culturally responsive leadership and instructional practices opportunities for partner PreK-12 schools, community organizations, and corporations.
        • Facilitate connections between college faculty and staff expertise and PreK-12 educational leaders, staff, and teachers throughout Michigan across contexts (e.g., urban and rural).
        • Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean of Education.

 

The Associate Dean reports to the Dean of the College and works closely with the Dean’s leadership team. The Associate Dean position will be an annual administrative appointment up to 75% in the Dean’s Office and the remaining time for a 1 FTE will be in the faculty member’s academic home department. The initial appointment will be for five years.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Kinesiology or related field

Minimum Requirements

  • Tenured Associated or full professor at Michigan State University
  • Record of successful leadership
  • Experience working and collaborating with faculty in a range of departments and units
  • Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion among faculty, staff, and students
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively with others

Desired Qualifications

  • Record of successful leadership on issues of equity and inclusion.
  • Knowledge of university units and efforts with primary focus on advancing diversity, equity and inclusion.
