Position Summary
As an SRF Physicist, you will...
- Lead high Q0 R&D of 644 MHz medium-beta elliptical cavities
- Develop new surface treatment recipes/methods for the FRIB Energy Upgrade cavity that is applicable to the real cryomodule
- Coordinate with clean-room personnel and chemical engineers for SRF cavity surface preparations
- Lead vertical and cryomodule tests for FRIB Energy Upgrade cavities
- Mentor graduate students
- Lead and support the development of plasma processing in low- and medium-beta cavities for CW cryomodules with no HOM couplers (20%)
- Lead plasma processing development for the FRIB Energy Upgrade cavity
- Assist plasma processing development for FRIB cavities and cryomodules
- Assist development of FRIB Energy Upgrade prototype cryomodule
- Assist development of an RF power coupler and frequency tuner
- Develop new tools and instrumentation for SRF cavity and cryomodule testing
- Support FRIB linac SRF operation
- Lead vertical and cryomodule tests of FRIB cavities for linac maintenance
- Support FRIB linac SRF operation and maintenance
- Develop and/or improve cryomodule components and procedures for the high-availability operation of the FRIB linac cryomodules
To be successful in this position, you'll obtain the following knowledge, skills, and abilities...
- Knowledge in RF superconductivity, Low-temperature physics, Microwave engineering for RF resonant cavity and waveguide
- Knowledge in RF, vacuum, and cryogenic systems to build SRF cavity testing setup
- Skills in RF, vacuum, and cryogenic equipment for SRF cavity testing
- Skills in SRF cavity testing instrumentation such as temperature sensors, magnetic field probes, cryogenic level probes, pressure, and vacuum gauges
- Skills in electromagnetic simulations using a finite-element-method (FEM) code
- Ability to perform SRF cavity tests
- Ability to experimental data and error analysis
