Position Summary

The Department of Teacher Education at Michigan State University is seeking outstanding candidates for anticipated fixed-term (non-tenure stream) faculty position in elementary social studies teacher preparation. This is a part-time position (one -year appointment). Primary responsibilities will be at the East Lansing campus, but may include occasional travel to off-campus sites in Chicago, Detroit, or Grand Rapids.

Responsibilities will include some combination of the following: teaching preservice or master's level courses related to elementary social studies education; working with teaching interns and their collaborating teachers during a year-long internship required for initial teacher certification; serving as Subject Area Leader of the elementary social studies course sequence; and contributing to program re-certification, assessment, and accreditation.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Elementary Education

Minimum Requirements

Instructor- Must have Masters Degree or been employed as an instructor or equivalent elsewhere

Assistant Professor- PhD

Desired Qualifications

A doctorate is preferred, but outstanding candidates with a master's degree and exceptional experience will be considered. background in elementary literacy, along with social studies, and ability to teach introductory literacy courses; Appropriate PK-12 teaching experience and relevant college-level teaching, specifically in elementary education; experience working with teaching interns and PK-12 district partners and community organizations; experience guiding masters and doctoral students in curriculum and instruction in elementary teacher education
