This is a full-time position on MSU's East Lansing campus.
The systems administrator will focus on supporting and improving the research technology infrastructure used by the MESH research team at Michigan State University. Primary responsibilities for this position will focus on the Humanities Commons’ AWS-based architecture, as well as maintaining the security and stability of the data and systems it contains. Additionally, the systems administrator will provide expertise for the other technical systems supporting the mission and work of MESH Research and other research & technology infrastructure in the College of Arts and Letters. The sysadmin will be part of a team committed to best practices in open-source software development and will ensure thorough testing and code review, as well as clear documentation. The sysadmin will also be responsible for tracking and resolving user and developer issues, ensuring that the platform’s scale appropriately, and optimizing hosting and data transfer expenses. The systems administrator will network with others on the MESH Research team, as well as with IT professionals more broadly at MSU and beyond.
This role will be ideal for a systems administrator interested in connecting to and understanding the enterprise systems being deployed by MSU as a whole while being in a position where experimentation and implementation are not only desired but encouraged. Our projects will provide the opportunity for creativity and innovation that may not be possible on a centrally located sys admin/cloud computing team.
The successful candidate for this position will have strong interpersonal skills and intellectual curiosity and will be able to work both independently and collaboratively with internal and external team members.
The College of Arts & Letters (CAL) promotes an academic and organizational culture that actively seeks out and strengthens diverse voices and perspectives among its members to achieve excellence.
