Position Summary

The successful applicant will develop a teaching program that will provide students with a foundational knowledge of pharmacology while preparing students for the appropriate board examinations. Candidates should also be interested in integrating relevant and current evidence-based medicine into the basic science content and in collaborating with interdisciplinary teams (basic scientists and clinicians) to effectively deliver pharmacology content across a wide variety of topics in undergraduate medical education.  

Responsibilities will include the presentation of lectures and laboratory sessions, creation of learning and assessment instruments (including hard copy and online), grading student performance, holding office hours and help sessions, addressing student queries via email, online chat rooms, course-specific websites, and managing all aspects of course administration sessions, including interacting with online course management systems. In addition, the incumbent to this position will assist in developing learning materials and will participate in an array of teaching modalities, including small-group and team-based learning, simulations, and assessment. The primary duty will be to develop and deliver content on Pharmacology and clinical aspects of drug therapy to DO students. Organization and administration of various aspects of DO student Pharmacology teaching may involve case discussions. In addition to teaching in the DO curriculum, there will be opportunities to teach in the Pharmacology and Toxicology PhD. program and the undergraduate Minor in Pharmacology and Toxicology. MSU COM has three campuses; therefore, there is extensive use of remote communications technology for organizational meetings and content delivery. Some travel to Southeast Michigan may also be required. Scholarly work opportunities will be encouraged and supported. This Academic appointment will be with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. The position will be full-time (90-100% teaching). Required Degree

Doctorate -PharmD, Pharmacology and or Toxicology PhD degree

Minimum Requirements

PharmD, Pharmacology and or Toxicology PhD degree, DO, MD or an equivalent degree plus three (3) years of prior teaching or clinical precepting experience.

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity with evidence-based medicine, excellent written and oral communication skills, experience in active learning teaching methods, experience with online course management software, familiarity with the NBOME COMLEX and FBS exams, and the USMLE Step exams, and knowledge of what makes a "great first-day resident." Additional requirements include a strong interest in teaching and excellent written and oral communication skills.

Familiarity with various instructional technologies and techniques, including active learning techniques, is desirable but not required.
