Position Summary

Two Research Associate positions are available in the Pelled Lab at the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering at Michigan State University.  This position will perform research as part of two NIH funded grants.

The two research projects focus on:  

  • Bioaquatic inspired prosthesis- Using electrophysiology and imaging to identify fundamental sensorimotor circuits in octopus (NIH, UF1NS115817)
  • Magnetogenetics- Developing innovative genetic and molecular-based neuromodulation technologies (NIH, R01NS098231)

The successful candidates will be expected to conduct experiments, collect and analyze data, give research presentations, write scholarly papers, provide progress reports, and mentor graduate and undergraduate students in the lab.

This position is a 12-month fixed term appointment. Renewal of position is based on funding and performance.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Biomedical Engineering, Physiology, Neuroscience

Minimum Requirements

  • Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Biomedical Engineering, Physiology, or Neuroscience.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • A strong background in neuroscience and/or biomedical engineering with expertise in electrophysiology, optical imaging, MATLAB, and behavior is required.
