Position Summary

The Center for Research on Ingredient Safety (CRIS) Laboratory Technologist will work in a team laboratory environment to perform cellular and molecular assays with primary cells and cell lines in order to produce chemical safety data for publication purposes.  Through working with CRIS laboratory members and consults with specialists in toxicology, this position will contribute to the development of the most appropriate experimental design as well as the evaluation of new methodologies and procedures in order to improve laboratory functions.  The laboratory technologist will be responsible for maintaining laboratory notes, assisting in the development of standard operating procedures, as well as entering information into the computer to perform data reduction in order to obtain results from assays and test.  The successful candidate should have experience with operating, maintaining and calibrating instruments and equipment in order to provide accurate and efficient performances of assays.  This laboratory technologist will be responsible to prepare charts, graphs, and power points for presentations and journal publications.  This position will also monitor laboratory inventory, order supplies and maintain a detailed records of the calibration, maintenance and repair of equipment.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Biology, Chemistry, or other related science fields; one year to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques and analytical methods specific to the area of research employment in an immunotoxicology laboratory; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

The following kinds of experiences are highly preferred:

  • Cell culture with various populations of cell lines and primary cells.
  • Basic cell biology assays (e.g., cell culture, Western blotting, ELISA).
  • Basic techniques in molecular biology (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction and PCR/qPCR).
  • A proven track record in contributing to scientific publications.
  • Ability to demonstrate familiarity with instruments required for an immunotoxicology and immunopharmacology laboratory.
  • Ability to maintain meticulous laboratory notes from lab work.
