Position Summary

The Prenatal Stress Study at Michigan State University is seeking a full-time Laboratory Aide. This project funded by the National Institute of Child Health and Development focuses on how the timing of prenatal stress affects later infant behavior and physiology, as well as the interactions between mothers and infants. Responsibilities may include: organizing and monitoring tracking files for the progression of the project; recruiting, training, and lead worker over regular and student  undergraduate research assistants in their work on the project; recruiting participants and maintaining relationships with recruitment sites, facilitating communication between MSU PIs and staff and UM partners; ensuring the smooth running of the lab operations, including overseeing purchases and invoicing; managing the project IRB protocols; and other administrative tasks.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college, technical, vocational or trade school with coursework in basic Psychology, Social Work or related field; up to six months of experience in a laboratory setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • At least 1 year experience in a clinical or developmental psychology or medical research lab
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field is desirable
  • Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including word processing; familiarity with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Qualtrics software
  • Strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task
  • Ability to work independently to meet deadlines
