Job duties include but are not limited to plant tissue culture, molecular cloning, RNA/DNA extraction and analysis, plant maintenance, tissue collection and phenotyping (image analysis) and assisting in general lab management. Following established procedures in performing tests and assays, in order to generate and record data for later analysis by other researchers, assists in complying test results for future composition of reports, publications and presentation by other researchers. Operates, maintains and monitors research instruments and equipment, orders supplies and equipment in order to maintain inventories. Supervises and instruct students in the performance of basic laboratory techniques. Cleans, prepares and stores glassware and materials used in experiments by washing, acid-washing and sterilizing.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Biology or related science field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in molecular biology and sterile techniques; the job may require specialty certifications, approvals, or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
A Bachelor’s degree in Biology is desired, experience in molecular biology and sterile technique. One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in molecular biology and sterile techniques; Motivation and ability to initiate and complete tasks independently, reliable work habits. Willingness to learn and become proficient in new techniques and procedures. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, thoroughness in record keeping and the ability to effectively communicate and multitask. Ability to take initiative in maintaining and improving lab operations. May require successful completion/continued maintenance of accessibility standards. Basic computer skills (Word, Excel, etc.).
