The Josephs (Plant Biology) and Edger (Horticulture) labs are hiring an Information Technologist III who will provide independent professional technology support of high complexity and breadth with software development.
The employee will provide expert support to research on topics related to the role of selection in shaping genetic variation, subgenome expression dominance in allopolyploids, and the identification of genetic variants associated with observed phenotypic variation. The ideal candidate will have expertise in polyploid genomics, genome assembly of complex polyploid genomes, identification of conserved non-coding sequences, and detecting selection in coding and noncoding genomic sequence. Many of these topics will require writing and developing highly complex code, testing and implementing complex software solutions, and working with team members to analyze problems and develop solutions requiring novel uses of existing technologies. The employee will participate as an independent, fully functioning professional expert on research teams and will act as a key resource to all team members
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in computer science, computational biology, or related fields, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; and five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed, including experience overseeing large, complex or critical information technology projects; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge equivalent to that which would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in computer science, computational biology, or related fields. 5+ years experience in computational genomics, bioinformatics, evolutionary genomics, or related fields. Familiarity with unix, working on a high performance computing cluster, in R, Python or other commonly used programming languages. Experience working with diverse teams of scientists.
