Post-Doctoral Fellow
Position Summary
The post-doctoral fellow will collaborate with Dr. Terry Flennaugh and Terrance Burgess from MSU’s College of Education in addition to institutional partners at California State University Dominguez Hills, Cleveland State University, and Minnesota State University Mankato on a Hewlett Foundation funded project that utilizes a networked improvement model to prioritize racial equity in teacher education.
This role involves working closely with the established networked improvement community (NIC) to manage data and host events. Specific duties include:
1. Developing and validating data collection tools (including psychometric measures) for teacher educators and teacher candidates.
2. Collecting and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data collected from faculty and teacher candidates from four institutions.
3. Assisting with the composition and publication of peer-reviewed journal and op-ed articles related to NIC findings.
A strong candidate for this position will be expected to weave quantitative and qualitative data into a double helix of rich and robust analyses to answer key research questions identified by a cross-university work group. While additional questions are likely to emerge as the NIC continues to conduct more in-depth data analyses, the questions already identified include: How has racial justice content evolved at the member universities? What are the trends over time? What are the institutional commitments to racial justice? How are these seen in teacher preparation? In candidate experiences? Are there trends in perceptions of universities and teacher education programs’ commitments to NIC goals over time? Are there factors that are predictive of what faculty will do and report—particularly newer and younger faculty? What is the relationship between students’ number of years in teacher education programs and their responses?
