Position Summary

Characteristic Duties - Responsibilities

  • Monitors building, grounds, mechanical, electrical, security, audio visual & IT systems; and makes arrangements for and oversees internal and contracted maintenance, repairs and modifications.
  • Works to secure purchase orders for all goods and services by coordinating between external vendors, internal stakeholders and MSU Procurement.   Prepares purchasing requisitions and maintains records of such transactions.
  • Analyzes operating costs and identifies and recommends areas of potential cost reduction or process improvements.
  • Assists in daily operational, administrative & client functions as needed.
  • Trains and consults with clients and staff on computer, audio-visual and related information systems and training tools.
  • Assists with interviews for new staff as required by MEC Manager.
  • Maintains inventory systems for the facility and assists in the purchase and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
  • Assists in the design and production of marketing and related materials.
  • Interacts with clients to schedule and coordinate the use of the facility and its resources.
  • Extended periods of time walking in and around the facility.
  • Bending, reaching, crawling, climbing a ladder, routine lifting to inspect the facility systems and equipment.

Communications – Interpersonal Relationships

  • Internal Stakeholders- Primarily MEC, EMBA and other University Staff - in order to provide technical, operational, or administrative assistance, and exchange information.
  • Corporate and University Clients - in order to coordinate requests for facility services, provide technical assistance, resolve problems and complaints, and exchange information.
  • Designated Supervisor - in order to report on the status of projects, facility systems, and operational activities; make recommendations for improvements; receive direction; and exchange information.
  • External Contractors - in order to schedule, monitor, resolve problems, obtain bids, and exchange information.
Responsibility for the Work of Others
May provide first level supervision over Temp/On-Call employees.


Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which would normally be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration or Information Technology; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in facility operations and maintenance, the use and maintenance of audio-visual and related instructional tools, and information technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

  • May require valid vehicle operator's license where needed to perform duties of the position.
  • Other skills and/or abilities required to perform duties of the position should include, but not limited to; knowledge of building codes, ability to interpret blueprints and hands on skilled trade experience.
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM) credential, Facility Management Professional (FMP) or comparable certification.
