Position Summary

The office assistant for Student Life & Engagement (SLE) will serve as the primary administrative support for SLE Strategic Communication and Digital Strategies and Services (DSS); prepares for and attends Strategic Communication staff meetings; maintains and reconciles the bookkeeping records for both units; manages requests for bids from vendors; assists in travel planning for both units; manages calendaring functions; creates drafts of departmental communications; interacts with various MSU and SLE staff and students to assist with questions and resolve issues; triages office related issues; engages in and supports a diverse division striving to be fully inclusive and equitable.
All positions in SLE are designated as critical status. In the event of a university closure, modification, or suspension of operations due to snow or other emergency condition, persons in this position are expected to make all reasonable attempts to report to work as scheduled for the duration of the closure/suspension. If a person has an approved remote work agreement to work a portion of their normally scheduled work hours remotely, they may be called upon to work on-site to serve the MSU community.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation and webpage software; typing and filing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Strong customer service skills with excellent interpersonal skills. Strong ability to organize and prioritize work, take initiative and work independently. Proficiency in Microsoft Office software. Knowledge of MSU Manual of Business Procedures Experience in an office setting with confidential information experience are preferred. Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, LGBTQIA+ and gender backgrounds.
