Position Summary

  • Provides full video-recording support for live College of Music events in a variety of venues, including multi-camera, live switching, and streaming concerts; evaluates remote locations and directs camera positioning in order to maintain technical and aesthetic standards; provides direction to people on location shoots in order to elicit the desired performances.
  • Collaborates with faculty and staff stakeholders on technical and creative aspects of video production in order to facilitate the creation of short video features for college productions. 
  • Uses independent judgement to influence strategic direction for role of video in College marketing strategies.
  • Shoot and edit video content for in-house projects.
  • Assists in the orientation and training of staff and student crew members using video equipment, including the development of training modules.
  • Operate cameras, lighting, and audio equipment.
  • Maintains, trouble-shoots, and recommends purchase of video equipment.
  • Manage the content on the College of Music’s YouTube, streaming and social media channels; edits video using video editing software, such as FinalCut Pro, Adobe Premiere, etc., for optimal media and computer file delivery. This also includes the integration of closed captions and adherence to licensing requirements.
  • Works collaboratively with MSU IT and other staff to maintain College of Music performance venue and classroom video systems, including KUMO routing systems.
  • Collaborates with Recording Engineer on all College recording projects; staffing and training; as well as maintenance and purchase of equipment.
  • This position has responsibility for the health and/or safety of others. Responsibilities include insuring the safe use of video and lighting equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of state-of-the-art and legacy audio-visual technology and the ability to keep current with developments in audio-visual technology.
  • DVD authoring and compressing with software, such as Compressor, DVD Studio Pro, or Encore.

 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Television Production, Broadcast Journalism or Telecommunications; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in studio and remote television production, directing, editing and the use of related television equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess musical skills, including an ability to read musical notation and scores.  Candidate will have the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
