Position Summary
This position assists the laboratory principal investigator and associated personnel with laboratory and field research programs, including design, assessment, analysis and reporting of research trials to evaluate different strategies for comparing products and approaches to prevent insect infestation in berry crops. Assists with data collection, compiling test results and data analysis for composition of reports, publications, and presentations by researchers. Operates growth chambers and maintains laboratory and field equipment. Supervises student and temporary employees. Fieldwork may include working in harsh environments. The position requires a valid driver's license and a pesticide applicators license (within 3 months of the date of hire). In-state and out-of-state travel will be required. Position is funded for one year from the date of hire, with possible extension based on availability of funding.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in biological or agricultural science discipline or other related science fields; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in standard laboratory procedures and safety requirements and performing analytical and research techniques in biological or agricultural research; proficiency with word processing, presentation, and data entry and analysis software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position requires a valid driver's license and pesticide applicators license (within 3 months of hire).
Desired Qualifications
M.S. degree in biological or agriculture related field. Experience working on berry crop research on economically-important insects in perennial fruit crops; experience sampling bees and other pollinators and assessing pollination in berry crops; ability to identify the major bee groups in the field; familiarity with pest management rules and regulations for specialty crops; familiarity with chemical safety and hygiene to maintain laboratory standards; experience writing research reports, extension bulletins and assisting in grant writing; experience managing employees.
