Ast/Asc/Full Professor Research - Fixed Term
Position Summary
Foundation Professor Dr. Terrie Taylor will be retiring in the 2024-2025 academic year and given the complexity of her contributions to MSU-COM, a robust search is required to identify her replacement.
Her successor will be expected to continue to teach Global Health for MSU-COM pre-clinical students, coordinate the Malawi elective for final year students, and represent MSU-COM “on the ground” in Malawi. The potential scope of this representation is broad and will be defined by the applicant’s skills and experience in conjunction with identified needs in Malawi. Research experience with a track record of grant funding OR research training in a relevant area OR a relevant technical/pedagogical skill are required. Applicants should be Board certified in their specialty, preferably with additional training in another educational or research-related avenue (educational fellowship, ID fellowship, MPH).
The position requires living in the MSU House in Blantyre while working in Malawi for 4-6 months per year. During this time, Dr. Taylor’s successor will oversee the MSU medical students on elective (who will also be living in or on the grounds of the MSU House in Blantyre). They will also actively contribute to teaching, clinical and/or research activities in the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences (KUHeS, formerly known as the University of Malawi College of Medicine), building on existing collaborative relationships when appropriate.
