Position Summary

The Insect Physiology laboratory of Dr. Henry Chung ( in the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University invites applications for an NSF-funded Research Associate (postdoctoral) position investigating the evolution of a novel pheromone across Drosophila species. This project is a collaboration with Dr. Joanne Yew’s group at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, so the research associate will have opportunities to travel to Hawaii for collaborative work.

The aim of this funded project is to elucidate the molecular and evolutionary changes that underlie the origin and diversification of a rapidly evolving Drosophila pheromone. The research will involve transcriptomics and molecular laboratory components.

The initial appointment is for one year with potential for renewal based on availability of funding.

Doctorate -Entomology, Molecular Biology, Evolution

Minimum Requirements

Solid publication record.

Desired Qualifications

Desirable qualifications include:

  • Experience working with Drosophila species
  • Experience working on molecular biology and transcriptomics
  • Expertise in dissections
  • Expertise in chemical ecology
  • Interest in mentoring undergraduate research
