Position Summary

The successful candidate will work on an NSF-funded project to assess the connections between genetic interactions, environments, and phenotypes in Arabidopsis thaliana. The specific goals of the project are to 1) predict genetic interactions specific to environmental contexts and 2) perform experimental studies to generate data for building models and validating computational predictions. The duties will include performing experiments to quantify genetic interactions between Arabidopsis genes under different temperature regimes and participating in the development of machine learning prediction models. This position offers a unique opportunity to interact with both computational scientists and experimental biologists, gain experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate students, participate in career development workshops and related events on campus, and disseminate findings in national meetings and in public outreach events.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Cellular or molecular biology, plant biology

Minimum Requirements

  • A Ph.D. in cellular or molecular biology, plant biology, or related field
  • Experience with phenomics studies in Arabidopsis or other plant models
  • Experience with analysis of omics data is desired
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to be an effective team player in a collaborative environment
  • An interest in using computational approaches to address biological questions
