Diversity Initiatives Coordinator

Position Summary

As a member of the Employer Relations Team, the Diversity Initiatives Coordinator will support outreach and engagement efforts for serving underrepresented and diverse student populations (i.e. students of color, LGBQTA+, veterans, students with disabilities) through intentional collaboration with student organizations, Network partners and relevant campus units.  The role will also have responsibilities for planning and hosting professional development programs and career fairs and partnering with employers to support success in attracting and recruiting diverse applicants.

  • Increase engagement of underrepresented student populations with Career Services through intentional collaboration with student organizations and identity and affinity campus units
  • Develop and implement annual Diversity Initiatives action plan and goals for addressing key issues and supporting student and employer success; track and manage action plan, timelines, and deliverables
  • Serve as a point of contact for employers seeking diverse talent and provide consultation and support for developing successful engagement strategies and activities for recruiting and hiring
  • Assist in managing and hosting the Diversity Career Fair and event-related programs
  • Partner with MSU Black Alumni National Board and other affinity organizations to support member engagement in key initiatives and execution of strategic plan
  • Serve as Career Services Network liaison to the Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities and the Student Veterans Resource Center; coordinate participation in collaborative projects with these units
  • In partnership with employers, create and deliver professional development workshops and programming to student organizations to support career development and exploration
  • Assist with promotions and programming surrounding the Diversity Career Fair, Identity in the Workplace series and the Employer DEI Workshop
  • Prepare written communications, reports, and multi-media materials for distribution to constituents and stakeholders; contribute to Career Services Network annual Diversity report and other publications
  • Partner with career services colleagues across campus to plan and deliver professional development programs, skills workshops, and events
  • Participate in fundraising and partnership development meetings as requested and support the development of proposals for donors and partners
  • Provide reporting on student and employer engagement
  • Assist with social media marketing to promote relevant professional development activities
  • Attend, present, and represent Career Services Network at professional conferences and serve on relevant external groups and committees as deemed appropriate by Network leadership

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a Master's degree, and one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience related to the area of employment; or knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a Bachelor’s degree, and three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience developing career programs and activities; advising individuals and groups in a variety of settings; public speaking; writing and editing for mass distribution; working in a team environment; use of internet, word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Preference given to individuals who have strong relationship management, project management, problem-solving, communications and teamwork skills; previous experience or knowledge working within human resources, career services, or employer relations roles; experience working directly with underrepresented students at the university level in a career advising role or other career-related setting; experience working with employers; ability to be flexible, learn quickly, desire and ability to build collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders including students, employers, alumni, and MSU faculty and staff.

Work Hours

Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with some weekends and evenings.

Description of End Date

This is an off-dated position funded for one year from date of hire with the possibility of renewal/extension based on funding.
