POSITION SUMMARY

As part of MSU Extension (MSUE) and the Health and Nutrition Institute this position provides leadership and oversight of local programs, clients, and participants, related to MSU Extension’s rural family and youth immunization project and as part of the Health and Nutrition Institute.

As a team member on the rural family and youth immunization education project, you will oversee and ensure local program/project promotion and expansion activities and assist with data gathering for collective impact evaluation efforts. You will work in conjunction with your supervisor, youth and family health program instructors, program participants, and community partners to attain both short-term and long-term goals and objectives. Through your supervising educator, you will work in concert with the appropriate MSU Extension Institute and/or work team(s) to ensure alignment of programs with overall goals of work team, Institute, and grantors.

You will serve as health program instructor for the rural family and youth immunization education project, and you will identify appropriate, existing materials and messaging, and implement various outreach efforts through indirect means like digital advertisements, social media, print mailings, videos, newspapers, and radio for immunization education. You will utilize materials that are available from communication toolkits at the state and national level, such as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) via the Governor’s Protect Michigan Commission, and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention, as well as those generated from this grant project. Additionally, you will have the ability to help create new materials using science-based information from state and national resources (i.e., CDC, MDHHS) and tailor messages to audiences and communities that are the focus of outreach campaigns. Your work will include placing consistent, science-based information about vaccinations in all MSU Extension county and district offices, as well as making available to all MSU Extension offices digital materials for support staff who maintain and administer county websites and social media pages or accounts.

Through your work to implement a strategic communications campaign for adults in the state of Michigan, you will have access to utilize existing mailing lists from MSU Extension’s past program participants and current partners to circulate educational materials designed to increase awareness and understanding, and ultimately inform COVID-19 vaccine and other childhood immunization decision-making among Michigan communities. Working together in primarily rural communities you will collaborate with youth and family health program instructors whose primary focus is youth audiences. You will attend various and related local program meetings or committee meetings, as well as community planning activities, as appropriate.

Although negotiable, there will be space available for this position to work from the Mackinac County MSU Extension office.
