Position Summary

The Department of Romance and Classical Studies at Michigan State University is seeking an academic specialist of Spanish with expertise in early modern Andean cultural studies with an intersectional and decolonial approach to Colonial Peru. This is a fixed-term, nine-month, academic year position beginning August 16, 2021. The position is not renewable. A PhD is required for this position. All degrees must be confirmed by degree-granting institutions at the time of hire. The successful candidate will engage in an active program of teaching, including three courses per academic year in the Spanish Program and/or teaching in the College of Arts and Letters' general education program in the Interdisciplinary Arts and Humanities. They will also conduct productive research in their area of expertise. This person will be expected to actively promote the academic culture of the department. They will assist with editorial duties related the the Revista de Estudios de Género y Sexualidad housed in the department. The successful candidate will assist with academic advising in the department. They will work closely with local school districts on outreach initiatives as well as develop collaborations with MSU programs focused on the Latinx population.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD in Hispanic Studies in hand by the time of appointment with specialization in Colonial Latin American Literatures with an emphasis in the Andean region and transhistorical approach to postcolonial Indigenous literature.
  • Native/near native proficiency in Spanish and English.
  • Working knowledge of Quechua.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary work.
  • Strong research focus and teaching interest in the following antiracist scholarship, anticolonialism, intersectionality.
