Counseling & Psychiatric Services provides a wide range of mental health services for students on campus, including and not limited to: screening/triage appointments, individual and group therapy, psychiatric services, outreach and multicultural engagement, clinical care coordination, intensive integrated clinical services, and hospitalization coordination and support. MSU is a large university with many resources and excellent benefits for employees; the CAPS department is undergoing a significant period of growth and expansion at this time, including an expansion of our crisis response capacity.
This position will assist providers with essential paperwork and documentation of incoming paperwork, including but not limited to: screening and assessment forms, gathering bio-psychosocial and personal history information, disability verification paperwork, other academic and university documentation on behalf of CAPS providers. Identifies and provides referrals to community resources to meet students immediate needs and work to support students needing assistance in making connections with outside providers. Track completion and follow up of referrals as necessary. The will support staff in clerical tasks, paperwork organization related to direct clinical service provision, document consultations in electronic health records, and participate in integrated mental health care team meetings. Develop relationships with area supports to build knowledge of the resources available to students and to provide linkages to these services. Maintain collateral contact with community organizations, such as hospitals and other mental health providers, to request and receive information, records and case updates. Provides follow up and wrap around contact with students to monitor and support their access to services and adherence to treatment plans. Assists in facilitating and providing on-going education, resource information, and support services for students. Attends interdisciplinary and collaborative treatment team meetings with CAPS and other MSU community supports on behalf of CAPS, provide linkages and information about CAPS services, document case consultations in EHR, and gather and prepare statistical data for patient tracking and annual reports. The successful candidate will assist providers in responding to different crises, engage with administration in our professional collaboration with hospital services, and demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented/underserved populations.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
The job requires: knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a bachelors degree in Social Work or a related human services field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling in a health/mental health environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. State licensure as a bachelor level social worker.
Excellent verbal/non-verbal communication skills. Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team. Experience in multicultural/intercultural settings. Experience in assisting mental health providers, organizing treatment records and related data and documenting clinical information. Previous interactions with mental health agencies/environments, hospitals, individual and families in crisis or with significant mental health concerns, and government agencies such as CPS, DHS, police departments. High tolerance for intense situations. Comfort with fast paced work environment. Knowledge of electronic medical records
