Position Summary

The Admissions Senior Counselor serves as a key leader in shaping and executing the admissions strategy for the College of Osteopathic Medicine. This role oversees critical aspects of admissions operations, including the management of the applicant interview and onboarding processes, ensuring a seamless experience for prospective students.

In this leadership position, the Admissions Senior Counselor supervises a team of seasonal application readers, driving efficiency and accuracy in the application review process. Beyond its administrative duties, this role plays a central part in student recruitment, outreach, and advising efforts. The Admissions Senior Counselor will actively contribute to public speaking engagements, event planning, and applicant advising, aligning these activities with broader admissions and recruitment goals. The role of the Admissions Senior Counselor is primarily administrative in nature but will also contribute to recruitment, outreach, and advising functions within the team.

This role collaborates with faculty, staff, and alumni to ensure holistic application review and fosters clear, consistent communication across all stakeholders. Representing the College at key institutional events such as orientation, Match Day, and graduation, the Assistant Director will participate in strategic decision-making through involvement in College committees. Travel is occasionally required, both within and outside the state, to attend recruitment events and conduct school visits.

 

 

 

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in admissions, counseling, public relations, student services or related area, including implementing programs and schedules, making formal presentations, and working with the public; experience with database, spreadsheet, desk top publishing and/or presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and the public.

Desired Qualifications

Three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in admissions, counseling, public relations, student services or related area, including implementing programs and schedules, making formal presentations, and working with the public; experience with database, spreadsheet, desk top publishing and/or presentation software.

Master’s degree in higher education, student affairs, or a related field and a demonstrated ability to build and nurture relationships with diverse stakeholders.
