ICU Veterinary Nurse (FT3)
Position Summary
Provides patient care for ill and injured animals in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This position will primarily be working in the VMC Emergency and Critical Care unit; instructs and demonstrates techniques to students; assists students, veterinary technicians and veterinarians in their work; maintains supplies, equipment and cleanliness of hospital areas.
Skills you will develop and utilize include central line placement, arterial catheters, urinary catheters, tracheostomy care, ventilator and dialysis patient care, etc. With four Boarded Critical Care Specialized Veterinarians and two Emergency and Critical Care Veterinary Technician Specialists, we support and assist in your career development.

Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug- dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software. May require experience in a veterinary hospital research setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired Qualifications
Experience in an educational setting; background in emergency medicine.

Summary of Physical Demands
Lifting and carrying animals up to 50 pounds individually, or 150 pounds as a team.
Summary of Health Risks
TB risk or potential exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis. Work with animals or unfixed animal tissue. Wear a respirator (does not include paper dust mask worn for comfort).
