Position Summary

The College of Education at Michigan State University (MSU) announces two open positions in the Office of Rehabilitation and Disability Studies in the Department of Counseling, Educational Psychology, and Special Education that we intend to fill this year. These positions at the assistant or associate professor level are 9-month tenure-system appointments that will begin on August 16, 2020.

 

The U.S. News and World Report annual ranking of graduate programs consistently rates the MSU Rehabilitation Counseling programs (doctoral and master’s levels) as one of the top programs in the nation. We are seeking colleagues to be part of our top-ranked programs who are committed to both research and practice that promote the enhanced quality of life of individuals with disabilities. We are interested in colleagues who share our vision for stewardship of the rehabilitation counseling profession. Applications are invited from individuals with a broad range of professional experiences and expertise including, but not limited to, rehabilitation counseling, rehabilitation psychology, rehabilitation counselor education, or closely related disciplines.

Responsibilities: (1) engagement in an active and productive program of research, (2) graduate teaching in all modes of delivery in both our CACREP-accredited master’s rehabilitation counseling and doctoral rehabilitation counselor education programs, (3) supervision of doctoral dissertations, (4) clinical supervision, and (5) participation in democratic governance and operation of our programs.

Required Degree

Doctorate -Rehabilitation counselor education/psych

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have an earned doctoral degree in rehabilitation counselor education, rehabilitation psychology, or a closely related discipline, or provide evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start of the appointment.

 

Successful candidates must (1) have a record of strong scholarly accomplishment through publication and show evidence of commitment and/or success in securing external funding to support research, (2) eligibility for CRC certification and licensure as a professional counselor (LPC) in Michigan, and (3) prior clinical experience as a rehabilitation counselor/rehabilitation psychologist working with individuals with disabilities.

Desired Qualifications

(1) possession of research, teaching, and/or clinical skills and experience with diverse disability populations in the areas of assessment, intervention, and/or consultation; (2) ability in promoting inclusive and culturally responsive research, teaching, and clinical practices; (3) developing and maintaining an active research program that is supported by external funding; and (4) providing quality mentoring and supervision at the graduate level.
