Position Summary

Person will act as the main contact for the Herbarium. Greet visitors, students and colleagues. Assist in accessioning, cataloging, organizing and handling of herbarium specimens. Prepare herbarium specimens for storage, use and re-storage. Assist in responding to requests from faculty, staff and public for use of herbarium collection. Supervise students, on-call employees and volunteers in the handling of herbarium specimens. Monitor collection users’ adherence to herbarium policies and procedures in governing collections. Manage specimen data, assist in preparing materials for classroom use and for public outreach.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year degree in Biology, Botany, Plant Biology, or a related field; up to 6 months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work in handling biological museum specimens, cataloging and accessioning specimens and using database and word processing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

The care and management of museum collections must meet professional herbarium standards to ensure that the collection held in public trust will be safely maintained and accessible for present and future research and educational use.  Attention to detail is a must. Must have the ability to work with others as a team member

Description of End Date

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
