This is a non-union position based out of the Grand Rapids Research Center at MSU. An individual with at least 2 years experience in clinical research is sought to take a major role in the administration of clinical research protocols to older adults in West Michigan. The specific tasks required for this position will be ongoing regulatory document maintenance, administering tests of cognitive function and activities of daily living, as well as follow research study protocols for interventions designed to delay or treat dementia. These will include research studies supported by both the National Institutes on Aging and the pharmaceutical industry. The successful candidate will be involved in prescreening interested individuals, consenting trial participants, training participants in the proper means of taking the intervention, maintaining medical history records, completing timely data entry, scheduling study procedures and visits within protocol specific time requirements, contact information, test results and any adverse events into a database. The employee may also share information about dementia conditions in older adults, participate in trial recruitment efforts and share strategies for caregiving to relatives of people with dementia.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired through a four year college degree program in Psychology or Gerontology or related discipline and a minimum of one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in clinical and/or research working with older adults; OR the job requires completion of an associates degree with clinical research coursework or an Allied Health degree and three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in clinical and/or research working with older adults; experience with word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Masters degree preferred; history of caring for memory impaired patients preferred. Experience with redcap based programs and patient databases. The ability and willingness to travel locally on a relatively frequent basis (weekly). The ability and willingness to travel out of state occasionally (2-3 times annually for 3-4 days).Comfortable with public speaking. Individual must be able to prioritize tasks and work independently without daily supervision. Individual must have very strong organizational skills to manage volunteer administrators and maintain registry. Skill in personal communications.
