The psychologist will provide direct service and outreach to a diverse student population. The psychologist provides comprehensive psychotherapy services to clientele, will facilitate individual counseling, group services, provide advocacy and crisis intervention services. This position also provides consultation services to MSU faculty and staff regarding mental health. The psychologist is responsible for the completion of counseling service documentation, including crisis intervention, student outreach, individual and group counseling, outreach and liaison services, supervision of Masters-level and Doctoral trainees, and educational/teaching activities as assigned.Provides training to graduate students, interns delivering psychotherapy and related services; examines, assesses, diagnoses, refers and provides psychotherapy to clients with mental health disorders and disabilities; orders, administers and interprets psychological tests in order to provide clients with or refer clients for mental health treatment and psychotherapy; analyzes and researches treatment information; prepares intake, assessment and treatment data as well as treatment summary reports for authorized external use in order to assure quality client care and provide tracking; conducts workshops and seminars in order to educate clients, parents, faculty, staff, health care professionals and the community regarding diagnostic and treatment issues; serves as liaison, committee member and/or resource person in area of expertise; participates as a team member in or leads staff meetings, case references or various meetings; completes other duties as specified and assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing more than four years of graduate study beyond a Bachelor's degree, such as a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology, one year pre-doctoral full-time internship (by a licensed psychologist), six months to one year of related experience in psychotherapy in a clinic/agency environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Full licensure as a Psychologist by the State of Michigan, or license eligible in the State of Michigan within eighteen months from date of hire.
Design and implementation of psycho-educational programming and outreach experience; experience in brief psychotherapy and crisis intervention; experience in training and supervision; one-year post-doctoral internship; proficiency in a language other than English; demonstrated competency or expertise in one or more specialty areas: working with diverse, multicultural student population, including international students and students of color; working with LGBT populations; working in an Integrated Mental Health setting; working with mood/bipolar disorders, Autism Spectrum Disorders, eating disorders, trauma including PTSD and complex trauma, psychological testing (e.g., ADHD assessment), and substance abuse disorders; experience in clinical supervision, three to five years of professional experience; experience in interdisciplinary setting; experience with diverse college students college students population from a multicultural/intercultural perspective.
