Position Summary

The Schmidt Lab at the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering (IQ) and the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology & Reproductive Biology is seeking a Research Assistant I.  Dr. Jens Schmidt’s research focuses on the quantitative analysis of telomerase mediated telomere maintenance, a process critical for the survival of most cancers. We use a combination of live cell single molecule imaging, genome editing, proteomic, and biochemical approaches to address how telomerase counteracts telomere attrition in human cancer cells.

The lab is located in the brand-new Bioengineering Building on the Michigan State University Campus in East Lansing. We are looking for a Research Assistant to join our growing laboratory, who is excited about telomere maintenance and is looking to help us build a deep mechanistic understanding of the underlying cell biological and biophysical processes.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

• Assists in coordinating research and laboratory operations in order to meet research goals.

• Performing laboratory work: biochemical assays, DNA cloning and molecular biological assays, cell culture, and microscopy.

• Generating and maintaining clonal, genome edited human cell lines.

• Data acquisition, analysis, and interpretation.

• Operating and maintaining scientific instruments.

This is an off-dated position funded for one year from the date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
