This position will work as a research assistant for a large federally funded research study of the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of a suicide prevention intervention for 800 suicidal jail detainees who are released to communities in 2 states (Michigan and Rhode Island). The multi-site study, funded by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and led by Dr. Jennifer Johnson, is a large research project with a tight timeline, so having someone highly organized is vital. The research assistant will track and follow up with participants, mostly by phone, after they have been released. The research assistant will take participants through a series of assessments and questionnaires and enter the information into the database. In addition, he or she will do qualitative coding of the relationship between substance use and suicide in this sample.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Psychology, Social Work or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience with individuals with mental health and/or substance use problems, OR individuals in crisis (e. g., suicide, domestic violence), OR processing, and database software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license.
Experience following research protocols.
Prior experience working with justice involved persons.
Prior work with persons with mental illness and or substance use.
