Position Summary

The position will work closely with MSU-CVM’s Academic Programs and Student Success (APSS) Office to serve doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) students at any/all stages of the DVM Program. The specialist will define and develop effective processes for monitoring student progress across the curriculum, identify and monitor outcomes for effectiveness of DVM curriculum, collaborate with the college career counselor to develop comprehensive career planning and coordinate with the office of diversity and inclusion for development of academic pathways. It is expected that the specialist will work with other advisors, assistant deans and APSS staff to develop programming to support student success. Additionally, the specialist will work with the College’s admissions office, curriculum and student performance committees, to identify necessary pre-requisites for success in the DVM Program. The position will assist students in the development of individualized curricular plans that include elective and selective experiences based on their career goals, develop a NAVLE study plan for senior students, meet with at risk students and work with the students and faculty members to develop effective remediation plans. Additionally, the specialist may assist with improvement of programs, promoting student awareness of available resources and avenues of support, documenting advising sessions, participating in meetings and other duties as assigned.

Bachelors -Biology, Animal Science, or related fiel

Minimum Requirements

Successful candidate must have a masters degree in Student Affairs, Education, Educational Counseling or related field and one year of work experience in personal counseling and/or academic advising.

Desired Qualifications

Familiarity or knowledge of the animal and veterinary field, bachelor degree in biology, animal science or related field and three to five years experience in personal counseling and/or academic advising in higher education. Other qualifications include excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills and demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
