Advising to facilitate the success of a diverse group of undergraduate students in the completion of a degree in chemistry through: program planning and course scheduling guidance; monitoring student progress toward degree completion; and providing student support as needed (referrals to campus resources, response to EASE reports, probationary conferences). Coordinate advising office operations including chemistry course scheduling and enrollment management; transfer credit evaluation; undergraduate scholarships and awards; and exit interviews. Participate in development of the program assessment and certification through collection and organization of data. Aid in recruitment by meeting with prospective students and parents and arranging departmental tours for school groups. Serve as liaison to CNS academic departments and administration. Teach CEM 425 Chemistry Communication each fall semester.
Doctorate -Education, Chemistry, or related field
A Ph.D. in Education, Chemistry, or related field. Strong communication, interpersonal, and computer skills. Experience working with undergraduate students in an academic advising, instructional, career planning, or student support capacity.
Working knowledge of the Student Information System (SIS), Electronic Student Academic Folder (ESAF) and Student Success Collaborative (SSC), and Qualtrics. Demonstrated commitment toward students from diverse backgrounds related to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic class, ability, first-generation status, and international status. Experience in implementing and assessing an educational program at a large undergraduate institution. Training for/experience in “academic planning and guidance, crisis intervention and referral, conflict mediation, and information exchange.
