We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to serve as research associate for a federally grant-funded school-based transition program (The ASSET Program) involving adolescents and young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). This one-year, 12-month (with possible additional years) position will center on a Department of Defense (DOD)-funded randomized controlled trial study that develop and evaluate the efficacy and effectiveness of a school-based vocational social skills and employment readiness group training curricula for transition-age youth and young adults (ages 14-22) with autism spectrum disorders. The Assistive Social Skills & Employment Training (ASSET) program is a weekly after-school program that runs for 2.5 months to improve social skills, social self-efficacy, adaptive functioning, anxiety and work readiness. The intervention will occur at multiple sites in Michigan and Illinois. This project is an multi-partners collaboration between Michigan State University, Illinois Institute of Technology and Public Schools in Michigan and Illinois. The team is composed of interdisciplinary researchers from Rehabilitation Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Special Education, Occupational Therapy, Education, Measurement and Statistics who are investigating evidence-based secondary transition practices to improve vocational outcomes of high school students with ASD. Successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating activities related to the research project on the MSU campus and in various community locations in Michigan and Illinois. The candidate should have experience working with transition-age individual with ASD. Excellent communication and organizational skills are required. Candidate will also be expected to participate in the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate research assistants.
The salary is commensurate with education and experience and the appointment will be on an annual basis with renewal/reappointment contingent on a successful performance.

Specific responsibilities under this job position include but not limited to:
- developing research materials and monitoring progress of research-related activities
- providing training and supervision to research staff in assessments administration and intervention implementation
- recruiting research participants and providing human subjects protection oversight
- ensuring research study protocol compliance and improving the quality assurance of research procedures
- collecting, managing and analyzing research data (quantitative and/or qualitative based upon individual research skills and experience)
- contributing to research output (e.g., progress reports manuscripts and presentations)
The primary work site will be on the MSU campus in East Lansing, but regular travel to various community locations in Michigan and Illinois will also be required.
Doctorate -Psychology, Rehab Couns, Sp Ed, Soc Sci
One to three years of related work experience in research projects. Experience in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods. Experience publishing and presenting research findings. Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license and reliable transportation. Applicants must be highly motivated, self-directed, have strong organizational and problem-solving skills and be willing and able to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team environment.
Candidates should have a commitment to individuals with ASD and interest in working with a leading group of interdisciplinary researchers and/or educators.
Successful candidates will have a mix of some set of the following skills, which will enable the Research Associates to make unique contributions to the project team:
- disciplinary expertise in counseling, psychology or special education
- experience in the area of secondary transition preparation and planning for youth developmental disabilities
- psychological and vocational assessment
- implementation of randomized controlled trials
- development and management of database and/or website
