Position Summary

The CHM West Michigan Administrative Associate oversees and administers the human resources functions for all employee groups (faculty, staff, and students) in the college’s Grand Rapids facilities west Michigan communities including the implementation of administrative objectives and goals in alignment with college strategic plans.   The person in this position utilizes high level knowledge of human resources policies, principles and practices, as well as practical and effective problem-solving skills gained from years of experience in supervision and management, to guide supervisors, managers, employees and other stakeholders to answer questions, transfer knowledge and resolve complex issues, including conflict resolution.    This person also serves as a resource and mentor to department administrators and unit supervisors, serves as a liaison to MSU Human Resources, Academic Human Resources, Employee Relations, Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Initiatives and other university offices and serves as the college HR representative on various university projects, focus groups and committees on behalf of CHM West Michigan.    This position works closely with the college’s Associate Dean of Administration to ensure that all human resources needs throughout the college’s multiple campuses are met in a timely and efficient manner.   In addition to responsibility for the human resources activities, this person works closely with the personnel responsible for facilities operations, building services, IT and security to ensure that administrative needs that span across multiple internal and external stakeholders are met; this includes oversight of the day-to-day administrative activities of the Secchia Center dean’s office.   The position reports to the associate dean for administration.  This position is located at the Secchia Center in Grand Rapids; occasional travel to other communities will be required. 

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management or related field; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in  managing human resource functions, designing and implementing training programs and human resource/labor relations management and/or experience in a field related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in human resources management or administration; five to eight years of experience directly in administration of human resources activities in a diverse environment and including conflict resolution and negotiation responsibilities; extensive experience in supervision of professional staff; demonstrated ability to organize demanding workload with minimal supervision; demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication skills; problem-solving ability under pressure; business acumen; unquestionable ethical orientation and discretion.
