Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
This is a full time 12 month position. As part of a multi-disciplinary behavioral health team, the nurse practitioner will provide and coordinate mental health services to MSU students in order to facilitate their academic progress and retention. The NP will work collaboratively with psychiatrists, psychologists, staff physicians, counselors, social workers and other campus and external partners to best serve the needs of the student population. The position will be responsible for providing direct care including mental health assessments, establishing diagnoses and determining appropriate treatment plans and coordinating referrals. The successful candidate will be committed to understanding the special needs of a diverse population of University students.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of post-bachelor degree work such as a Masters in Nursing; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a specialized area or a Master's Degree in Nursing; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in direct nursing care in a behavioral health unit; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The position also requires possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse and specialty certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan and Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center.
Skill and experience in assessment and treatment of patients with a wide range of psychiatric presentations including disorders of mood, anxiety, attention, eating, substance use and psychosis; experience working well with a multi-disciplinary team; experience working with college age young adults and diverse populations. Knowledge of electronic medical records, peer review and committee work in developing/updating policies.
Required Application Materials
Clinic Hours are 8AM-6PM Monday-Thursday and 8AM-5PM Friday during the academic semesters.
