Position Summary

The Department of English at Michigan State University invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Teaching Fellowship in Creative Writing beginning August 16, 2018. The fellowship salary is $53,000 for the academic year, plus benefits and a research stipend.

As a postdoctoral teaching fellow, the candidate will be assigned a 2/2 teaching load, and applicants must be prepared to teach lower and upper level undergraduate courses in the Creative Writing Program, including a multi-genre Introduction to Creative Writing course, and to engage with students through co-curricular activities. Mentoring will be provided to help develop the candidate’s career trajectory.

Housed in the Department of English, the Creative Writing Program ( offers a rigorous undergraduate concentration within the major emphasizing studies and craft. Required Degree

Doctorate -English/Creative Writing

Minimum Requirements

The fellowship recipient must have received a Ph.D. in English/Creative Writing within five years prior to the start of the appointment.

Desired Qualifications

We are seeking applicants working at the intersections of prose narrative and new media. The ideal candidate will have emerging expertise in one or more of the following areas: digital literary arts, video essays, interactive fiction or nonfiction, graphic narrative, or other avenues of electronic artistic production.
