Working/Functional Title

PACS Administrator

Position Summary

Provide independent professional operational support of the Radiology Clinical PACS (Picture Archive and Communication System) environment. This may include working with Radiology Clinical users on the as-needed basis as requests/incidents/problems are reported.

• Understands customer clinical and application technology demands and provides solution that meets organizational requirements, through either custom application development or purchase and integration of custom off-the-shelf solutions

• Ensure that PACS meets diagnostic quality requirements including:
   - Assist for the proper maintenance, performance, utilization and security of all information system.
   - Assist with equipment maintenance and systems testing, upgrading and installing

• Conversant in Picture Archive Communication System (PACS), Radiology Information System (RIS), and Radiology Speech Recognition (VR) including architectural design, workflow design and system integration including:
    - Radiology Clinical IT environment architecture ensuring the integration of technologies for reliable customer service experience
    - DICOM archiving, image lifecycle management, modality worklist and modality integration
    - System requirements gathering processes in order to complete projects in support of the enterprise according to industry best practices

• Assist with daily operations of Clinical PACS Environment
   - Working with vendors and subject-matter experts in the design, specification, development and maintenance to meet business objectives

• Follow the overall PACS policies/procedures and services within the Clinical Workflow for Radiology Faculty/Staff
   - Provide Radiologist and Clinical Technologist training

• Complete basic job functions in a timely manner, including time entry and vacation scheduling

• Familiar with a variety of concepts, practices and procedures from the information technology field

• Act as a liaison between the Radiology department and various customers including but not limited to outside referring physicians

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical, vocational or business school such as an Associates Degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed OR a Bachelors Degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Experience in the following technologies:
    - DICOM and DICOM routing
    - GE Centricity PACS
    - Nuance PowerScribe 360
    - Radiology Information System (RIS)
  • Experience in the healthcare industry, particularly delivery systems, and business-related processes, technology and practices, functions and architectures

  • Errors in the conception, design, fabrication and implementation of computer facilities and information systems, specifically the automated processing of patient and medical information would seriously disrupt operations and substantial losses of time and inconvenience to people within and outside the University

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, ability to successfully communicate technical concepts to non-technical partners and collaborators. Proven track record of meeting commitments with the highest standards of ethics and integrity.
