The School of Journalism at Michigan State University seeks a tenure-track assistant professor with experience in immersive storytelling production and research. The ideal candidate will have a well-defined research agenda with evidence of scholarly publication in peer-reviewed journals. Candidates must also have potential for external funding in their
area of expertise.
Our innovative colleague has the potential to be an exemplary teacher of dynamic and imaginative immersive and interactive skills, and a prolific scholar. This scholar will be required to conduct research in his or her chosen area of communication and join our efforts to seek external funding.
The School of Journalism at Michigan State University debuted in November 2016 a $1.5-million state-of-the-art newsroom and motion-capture studio, demonstrating it is light years ahead in its creativity and imagination to offer students the critical thinking, writing and visual communication skills to be leaders in this exciting, evolving industry. Our internationally known faculty are noted for cutting-edge traditional research and creative scholarship. Global industry leaders consult our faculty, alumni hold prominent positions, and students are national award winners.
Journalism education at MSU is more than 100 years old. We are one of the few to be continuously accredited since 1949 and are housed in the first college of communication in the country. MSU is the only university with two Top 5 doctoral programs in the National Research Council’s rankings in the field of Communication.
Candidates will have a PhD, an MFA or other terminal degree in a related field by August 15, 2018. This scholar will be required to conduct research in his or her chosen area of communication and join our efforts to seek external funding.
Experience in producing and teaching augmented reality, virtual reality, interactive 360 video or interactive immersive environment platforms is desired.
