Install, configure, and maintain components of the FRIB Control System networks using a configuration management approach; support implementation of and maintain the computing server infrastructure to support the FRIB Control System networks; create and maintain comprehensive documentation of related systems such as configuration, network diagrams, inventory, etc.; independently work with stakeholders to analyze problems or needs, and develop solutions drawing on a high level of expertise to solve problems; install, implement, and support systems software/hardware products; administration of virtual machine infrastructure; install and configure network switches, firewalls, and controls infrastructure; proactively monitor network and systems addressing any functional or security problems; identify potential areas of improvement; use defined network security guidelines when executing job functions; maintain backup and disaster recovery systems and participate in disaster recovery activities; report network operational status by gathering and prioritizing information; update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations; work within established configuration and change management policies to ensure, awareness, approval and success of change made to the network and computing infrastructure; follow export control requirements and policies; accomplish multiple assignments and deliver quality analysis under time constrained deadlines.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience in administration of Linux systems; strong experience in Layer 2 and Layer 3 networking; excellent communication and documentation skills.
