Network Engineer II
A successful candidate will coordinate with team members and stakeholders to complete network projects. They will provide thoughts and experience based administration of large scale network environments, and generate service quality reports based on relevant criteria for a wide range of audiences. They will monitor to affirm that the network service is meeting service level agreements and co-construct improvement plans with Infrastructure Design teams as necessary. They will understand the diverse needs of campus clients and assist in the development and planning processes to build future revisions of the network infrastructure. They will maintain network performance by collaborating with others to identify challenges and improve user experience; and provide thoughtful customer service. It is expected that candidates will proactively nurture team members by sharing experience and perspective, and seek to improve their personal skills by learning from existing staff and growing through training opportunities.
Candidate will work to position themselves as the resident InfoBlox subject matter expert and will be the primary administrator and operator of the campus DDI environment.
As members of the MSU Network Services team, candidates will develop and help grow trouble ticket, change management, project management, and workflow procedures utilizing the existing service and change management procedures to reduce impacts to the user community. They will assist with the development and maintenance of network documentation.
Business hours are typically 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Network changes are coordinated within maintenance windows outside of these hours. We expect that candidates to understand and accept the need to support 24/7 operations by being part of the MSU IT on-call support community. All employees of Michigan State University are expected to work with a diverse campus community of students, faculty, and professional support staff.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in enterprise WiFi network administration; experience in administration and operation of an Info Blox DDI environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Proven track record of excellent customer communication and service. Technical certifications including CCNP or equivalent. Familiarity with ITIL fundamentals. Experience with change management and documentation. Ability to document proposed solutions, problems, and existing designs. InfoBlox IPAM experience. Experience working in large public higher education institutions. Experience with BGP and OSPF. Familiarity with MSU campus. Ability to excel in a team based environment.
