The successful candidate will engage in independent software development and database design for the application that serves as the backbone of our services as a data coordinating center for the CDC as well as develop, test and implement complex extensions to a third party web application. This person will also work on several other clinical research projects assigned to our office. The candidate will be cross trained on other applications/systems to serve as a backup when needed; will act as a resource to other professional staff in the resolution of IT problems and needs, and act as a resource responding to and independently resolving IT problems (e.g., bug reports) from client users either via email or helpline calls; will generate test plans for new functionality including unit and integration tests; estimate timelines for new functionality; contributes to the estimation of costs for budgetary purposes, collaborate with database and system administrators for optimal system performance; participates in discussions with other developers working in other technologies regarding proposed approaches; performs reviews and updates of the work of staff members in areas related to assigned projects; contributes to internal process improvement plans. This is an off-date position funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Computer Science, Information Systems, Business or related information technology field, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
