Position Summary

We seek outstanding candidates to join the Particle Astrophysics group at the Michigan State University Department of Physics and Astronomy, to contribute to work on the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. Michigan State hosts a growing program in particle astrophysics, including efforts on both IceCube and the HAWC TeV gamma ray observatory. The group benefits from close connections to high energy physics groups working on T2K, NOvA and ATLAS and extensive technical infrastructure available in the department. The MSU IceCube group, led by Prof. Tyce DeYoung, has a leading role in IceCube data analysis and in planning for the future IceCube-Gen2 facility.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to IceCube data analysis and to R&D for cosmic ray air shower detectors to be deployed at the South Pole Station above IceCube to enhance sensitivity to astrophysical neutrinos. He or she will also mentor graduate and undergraduate students and contribute to public outreach efforts. The appointment will be initially for one year with the expectation of renewal subject to mutual agreement.
