Position Summary

  • Establishand foster relationships with academic and support units
  • Develop partnerships with high schools in Detroit; provide workshops to students,families, teachers and counselors on topics related to college access,financial literacy; coordinate development of MSU credit bearing offerings forhigh school students, which prepare them to succeed upon matriculation
  • Work closely with the Detroit Promise and Detroit Regional Chamber Foundation leadership
  • Meet enrollment, persistence and graduation goals established annually
  • Provide reporting to stakeholders as requested and appropriate
  • Implementation-campus welcomes, tours, workshops for potential participants, visiting teachers/administrators; participation in AOP
  • Work closely with coordinators of other MSU student support programs, especially the Spartan Success Scholars Program
  • Promote MSU widely to various constituencies and stakeholders who have a relationship with Detroit high schools
  • Establish advising protocols and outreach efforts for students at MSU
  • Maintain records and data on all efforts so that assessments can be completed regularly
  • Assess program initiatives for evaluation
  • Other duties as appropriate

Required Degree

Masters

Minimum Requirements

Masters degree. Experience in higher education with preference given to those who have worked in outreach, student affairs, advising, admissions or community engagement or high school students. Strong communication skills. Ability to act independently to meet goals, make public presentations, establish strong networks and have evidence of promoting effective team work among facultyand staff as well as management experience. Possess a high level of intercultural competence and is able to effectively relate to, work with andserve diverse constituents. Experience collecting, tracking and analyzing data. Ability to manage competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to work in a large, complex organization with highly engaged stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

Demonstrated passion for working with urban students. Experience developing and growing a program. Experience working with grants and/or an externally funded program.
