Training Director Psychologist provides direct service and outreach to a diverse student population; provides comprehensive psychotherapy services to clientele; facilitates individual counseling and group services and provides advocacy and crisis intervention services. This position also provides consultation services to MSU faculty and staff regarding mental health.
Administrative/Supervisory Responsibilities: include oversight of the Doctoral and Master’s training program, including recruitment, accreditation review, and oversight of the supervision of Master’s-level and Doctoral trainees, as well as educational activities as assigned.
Training Responsibilities: include training to graduate students and interns delivering psychotherapy and related services. Plans and implements all aspects of intern training program. Facilitate regular training committee meetings. Communicate and consult with national organizations that are training specific, including the program’s accreditation by the American Psychological Association. Regularly examines and restructures the Doctoral intern experience. Provides primary supervision of clinical work of Doctoral and Postdoctoral psychologists as required by state law.
Clinical Service Role: Provides crisis intervention, student outreach, individual and group counseling, consultation with faculty and staff, outreach and liaison services; examines, assesses, diagnoses, refers, and provides psychotherapy to clients with mental health disorders and disabilities. Orders, administers and interprets individual and projective psychological tests in order to provide clients with or refer clients for mental health treatment and psychotherapy. Analyzes and researches treatment information. Prepares intake, assessment and treatment data as well as treatment summary reports for authorized external use plus statistical reports in order to assure quality client care and provide tracking. May publish and present research results. Conducts workshops and seminars in order to educate clients, parents, faculty, staff, health care professionals and the community regarding diagnostic and treatment issues. Serves as liaison, committee member and/or resource person in area of expertise. Participates as a team member in or leads staff meetings, case references or various meetings.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing graduate study beyond a Bachelor's degree, such as a Doctorate (PhD/PsyD) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology; completion of a one-year, Doctoral, full-time internship; six months to one year of experience in psychotherapy with college-age/professional students; consultation,outreach, and educational/instructional activities in a university counseling center setting; and/or experience in a non-university clinical setting, including community mental health or inpatient treatment settings; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Full licensure as a Psychologist in the State of Michigan, or license-eligible in the State of Michigan within eighteen months from date of hire.
Three to five years of professional experience beyond licensure as a Psychologist. Knowledge and experience in working in a multicultural, integrated-health, clinical setting, including clinical experience with a diverse, international, university-based population. Design and implementation of psycho-educational programming and outreach experience; experience in brief psychotherapy and crisis intervention; experience in professional training and supervision. Proficiency in a language other than English. Demonstrated competency or expertise in APA accredited doctoral intern training programs.
Required Application Materials
Clinic hours are generally from 8AM-6PM Monday-Thursday and 8AM-5PM Fridays during the academic semesters.
