Position Summary

The Higher, Adult and Lifelong Education (HALE) Program at Michigan State University invites candidates of exceptional scholarly and professional achievement to apply for a tenure-system position in the Department of Educational Administration. Rank will be commensurate with professional credentials and experience, with preference given to candidates at least at the rank of advanced Assistant or Associate Professor.  Appointment begins in August 16, 2018.               

Our current complement of twelve full-time faculty members and three fixed-term faculty covers a wide range of curricular and research interests.  We seek a colleague who will enhance our current strengths as well as bring complementary professional expertise and skills to our community, including the Center for Higher and Adult Education.The Center focuses on domestic and international higher education policy, which increasingly plays an important role in the HALE curricula and research agendas. 

We encourage individuals with solid professional credentials in one or more of the following scholarly areas to apply: faculty, leadership, higher education organization/administration and policy, student access and success, and student affairs.  The candidate is expected to conduct an active scholarship agenda leading to refereed publications and external grant funding, teach graduate courses, advise students, and provide service to college and university communities. 

Required Degree


Minimum Requirements

An earned doctoral degree in education or a related social science discipline or provide evidence that the doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start of the appointment.  Required qualifications include:  (1) evidence of exceptional scholarly accomplishment or promise, (2) ability to assume teaching assignments both in face-to-face and online environments in two or more of the topical areas addressed in the HALE program (i.e., faculty, organization and administration; student affairs), and (3) evidence of service and involvement in national professional associations.  

Desired Qualifications

Senior scholars should have a record of leadership in externally-funded research projects.
