Applications are invited for a Research Associate position in the laboratory of Dr. Björn Hamberger, at Michigan State University. Research will be conducted, in Plant Synthetic Biology, on behalf of the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (www.glbrc.org).Desired start date for the position is December 1, 2017.
The research project will focus on engineering of terpene biosynthetic pathways in plants. The candidate should have a background in plant molecular biology and/or plant biochemistry. Strong interest in metabolic engineering, heterologous expression, or terpene biochemistry is preferred. The successful candidate will join a diverse and highly collaborative research team. Therefore, excellent communication skills are required.
Some duties of the position will include: Generation of constructs for transient heterologous expression and evaluation of simple terpene biosynthetic pathways; in collaboration with the GLBRC transformation facility, generation of stably transformed plant lines with engineered terpene metabolism; and analysis of transgenic lines by GC- and LC-MS.
Preferably, applicants should have received their PhD degree within the past three years but others may apply. This position will be for one year and will be renewed, contingent upon funding. For more information regarding this position, please contact Bjoern Hamberger at email@example.com.
PhD in Plant Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field. Excellent communication; strong molecular biology or plant biochemistry skills.
